If you're a software engineer / software developer, many ways to contribute will include open source:

• Produce resources for others to learn (content, possibly example projects)
• Contribute to open source that supports your projects
• Contribute to projects you support, for example activist

The benefits of these is that you do not need a huge block of time, they can be paused and picked up.
